SAVE THE LEMURS

Rescue. Treat. Protect.

Every life matters. Every rescue counts.

OUR MISSION

Protecting Lemurs from Trafficking

The Lemur Freedom Project (LFP) is a pioneering initiative dedicated to rescuing lemurs from captivity, providing expert medical and emotional care, and returning them to the wild when possible.

With over 100 lemur species at risk of extinction, we act urgently to combat illegal trafficking, support conservation science, and engage local Malagasy communities in long-term solutions.

Restoring Lemur Freedom

Rescue from Captivity

Our team collaborates with authorities to rescue trafficked lemurs and provide urgent medical care immediately.

Rehabilitation & Care

Specialized veterinarians and caretakers offer behavioral and physical recovery programs for each lemur in our facility.

Rewilding

Once healed, lemurs are released into safe forests or housed in lifelong sanctuaries on Nosy Kissimasy if not releasable.

Curious About Lemur Freedom?

Wondering how we protect lemurs, where your donations go, or how to volunteer? Explore our FAQs.

Our mission is to rescue trafficked lemurs, rehabilitate them with expert care, and release them back into the wild or provide sanctuary when rewilding isn't possible.

We focus on the entire journey of each lemur — from confiscation to rewilding — while empowering Malagasy communities through training, jobs, and leadership roles.

We are building two main centers: Ivato, for triage and rehabilitation, and Nosy Kissimasy, a long-term sanctuary for unreleasable lemurs.

Every donation helps us build shelters, train veterinarians, feed and medicate lemurs, and fund our education campaigns to stop the pet trade.
